St Helens Circle No 21
I would like to extend a warm welcome to visitors to this page of the Provincial website dedicated to The St Helens Circle.
We have a vibrant circle with just over 50 Brothers, with a wide variety of backgrounds. We have an array of talented Catholic men, Policemen, magistrates, distribution drivers, civil engineers, schoolteachers, salespeople, IT specialists, Caterers… the list goes on! it builds into a rich mix of people who gather with the aim to enhance their lives both socially and spiritually.
The Circle meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month at Unison Club, Bishop Road, St Helens with the exception of January when the Circle does not meet.
Ladies join us after our meetings in June, July, August, November and March, however in the other months there are alternative Ladies only occasions with a variety of interesting meals and events.
The April and August meetings are followed by formal black tie dinner, the December meeting by a Hot Pot Supper: the meetings on the other months are followed by a two course hot buffet meal for which we make no charge to our visitors .An entertainer, or a guest speaker are engaged on several of these evenings.
The November meeting is preceded by a Mass for deceased Brothers and their families. There is also a Presidents Mass in Late June which is followed by an early evening Barbecue for Brothers, their families and friends.
At our September meeting we Host the International Marbles Competition, which is always popular for our visitors from far and wide. The proceeds of this event are donated to the Catenian Bursary fund.
Annually we have a Bowls match against St Helens Masons, always very well attended and the proceeds of this are presented to Willowbrook Hospice.
The Circle’s social events include a formal Ladies evening which is generally held on the third Saturday of November and a dinner to which the local Catholic clergy are invited, takes place in February.
Other social events incude days at the races, trips to the theatre, walks in the country, meals out, plus anything else anyone fancies!
