
ANNUAL CIVIC MASS Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King Liverpool
The Annual Civic Mass for the City of Liverpool and the County of Merseyside took place on 23rd February 2020.
Mass was preceded by the grand procession. A fanfare sounded to herald the first procession which included the High Sheriff, Her Majesty’s Judges, Magistrates, members of the Consular Corps and other distinguished guests.
The second procession consisted of the Mayors of Local Boroughs, MPs, Councillors and Officers.
We then had a final fanfare for the third procession heralding the entrance of the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside and the Lord Mayor of Liverpool preceded by the bearer of the City of Liverpool Mace.
The most Reverend Malcolm McMahon Archbishop of Liverpool began the Mass by welcoming the Civic Leaders and guests. Archbishop Malcolm in his address highlighted that we Catholic Christians are very much integrated into society on celebrate Mass for the Civic authorities supported by a host of Catholic Societies along with their family nd friends. Special mention was made of those present to include The Union of Catholic Mothers, The Catenians, The Knights of St Columba and the Knights and Dames of the Holy Sepulchre.
The First Reading was read by His Honour Judge Neil Flewitt QC, the Second reading was given by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Anna Rothery and the bidding prayers read by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside Mr Mark Blundell. The offertory procession made up of Head Girls and Boys of Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College.
It was very pleasing to observe just how many of the Civic Leaders and Guests who received communion. All those who didn’t take communion received a blessing.
